Seaview and Sparkle Wedding Fair at The Imperial Hotel, Torquay, Devon

Room setup for wedding breakfast

The Seaview and Sparkle wedding fair is a bi-annual event organised by By Invitation Events in at the Imperial Hotel in Torquay, Devon.  By Invitation Events are always popular with suppliers as they come with lunch, it’s so nice not to be worrying about packing sandwiches while stressing on every aspect of your stand.  The setting for this fair in Torquay is quite a venue.  From outside I don’t think anyone would claim it’s much to look at but inside, well just wow.  It has a sense, of grandeur, of history, luxury and most importantly given it’s location the coast and sea.   It’s function rooms and hotel rooms have magnificent views out over Torbay courtesy of the hotel’s location looking down on the bay.

I have some great coast and beach related designs for bespoke wedding invitations and stationery so was thrilled to be asked to attend her by Michelle from By Invitations.  Also on a nice day its great to be able to relax and take a walk around Torquay (or maybe run) once you are all packed away.

So see it as potentially good show for my bespoke wedding invitations and stationery.  These Photos are from the summer version in Sept 2016 and publish the Winter one’s from 2017 soon.  With the first ones being from the hotel.

Rougemont Wedding Fair in Exeter, Devon

Casino Select

Rougemont wedding fair is an annual event organised by By Invitation Events in Exeter in Devon.  Always popular with suppliers as they come with lunch, less popular at this exact location as there’s not much space when 40 or so people turn up at the same time to drop off their stands but the building oozes class and history.  I think they play to the name to as there is a lot of red decoration around the place.  I love the high celings, greek columns, grand curtains and painting of their main room.  It’s a great space.  Last year it was one of my best wedding fairs so I saw as a bit of a must do so was there with my bespoke wedding invitations and stationery.

Decidedly Different Exeter Castle Vintage Wedding Fair

Exeter Castle lobby

2017 and saw the 4th version of this wedding fair.  Ridiculously popular with suppliers for it’s fair pricing and high values.  Being there is a bit of a badge of honour as the organisors Blue Fizz Events want the best suppliers not those with the most money so quality and talent is the order of the day.  And it’s as popular with Brides and Grooms.  The first fair when it was Saturday only on abysmal winter day saw over 500 people attend.  Since then it’s been a two day event regularly drawing over 500 people on each day.  So of course I was there with Artemis Stationery.

From a suppliers point of view this is great, the nearest comparable show at the Bath and West charges over twice as much and has almost twice as many exhibitors.

Exeter Castle is in an event space just minutes’ walk from the city centre.  As such perfect to hit the shops, cafes, bars and restaurants and take in a wedding fair all in one easy trip.

The court-yard of the castle hosts the vehicles which this year included a rather cool gin bar and prosecco wagon.  I think I partook in the prosecco but the gin which I’d saved for day 2 didn’t seem such a great idea after the suppliers gathering which turned into quite a late night with one or two drinks on the quay side.  These were Bubbles and Bakes and Culinary Creative.  There was also a really great caterer Gourmet Street Kitchen selling gourmet mac and cheese which was as excellent as it looked.  The Prop Factory rounded off the outside with tonnes of decoration.

Pride of place and getting quite chilly in the lobby of the castle was the Remarkable Photobooth Co.  Matt and Tania are two of my favourite people.  They genuinely care about their clients and their business and always push themselves to excel with new and creative innovations and the best props.  They shared the space with Franki Capri.

Either side of the lobby are the terrace rooms.  Brilliant high ceiling rooms with great light.  I was in the corner of one of these rooms.  I shared mine with such awesome people as Lucy Wallace Photography and Maxi Photography.  Two awesome south Devon wedding photographers I always love catching up with.  Days of Grace and Rockbeare Manor were amongst the highlights and I was neighbours with Catkin blooms and Polka Jewellery.  I was also opposite Elizabeth Armitage Photography, I’ve not seen her since the first wedding fair at Exeter Castle and it was great to be reacquainted.

In the ballroom went I checked in I made a beeline for Kate and Posh Nosh.  Love their food so much and was gutted to learn that this year they were only displaying and not running a pop up café.  I did run away with lots of brownie samples though.  Posh Nosh were situated by the very talented Frances Carlisle Photography, I’ve only come across her a few times but the photos she took at Hillersdon House on a styled shoot I collaborated on were amazing.  The Event Studio did the makeup at that shoot and were styling brides and models in one of the corners.  The ever popular Swing Kings provided the entertainment.

South Sands near Salcombe Wedding Fair Gallery

Spectacular setting for a wedding fair in the small boutique hotel at South Sands beach in Salcombe.  Great to meet so many amazing suppliers.  I  took a lot of stationery that tied in with the coast and Salcombe.  Including my Coast and Beach Huts Collection.  There was also table plans featuring both South Sands hotel and Salcombe Harbour Hotel as well as the adjacent yacht club.  See more of my stationery on the main website http://www.artemisstationery.co.uk/menu/all

Barefoot Bride at Woolacombe Bay Hotel

Woolacombe Bay Hotel

This week is a wee bit intense for Artemis Stationery with two wedding fairs in quick succession.  Sunday I was in Woolacombe in deepest darkest Devon.  Actually it was a delightful part of the world, I only said deepest darkest to try and be interesting and they all began with the same letters as Devon!  The drive there was a little bit magical.  It’s a gorgeous part of the world to on the North Devon coast facing the Bristol Channel and Wales (not that you can see it) – there’s also a South Devon coast facing the English Channel.  Woolacombe is set in a bay with hills all around and a sandy beach which is something of a surfing hotspot.

The Setting

The wedding fair was at Woolacombe Bay Hotel and organised by Blue Fizz Events (very talented ladies, check them out here).  I don’t know tonnes about the Hotel but I expect the hotel is in quite a historic building.  Woolacombe is quite small so I think it manages to be set on one edge and yet be near the centre of the few shops, restaurants and bars that are in Woolacombe.

The road leading to Woolacombe straight from the restaurants and ice cream parlours.
The road leading to Woolacombe straight from the restaurants and ice cream parlours.

It also has a small golf course in front of it which means there is uninterrupted grass between the front of the hotel and the beach, well aside from the hotels very stylish looking lido.  I so wish I could of gone for a swim.  Would it of been cheeky to ask?  It was my first time there and you do want to make a good impression!  I have to disclaim that I didn’t get much chance to wander but what I saw of the hotel was gorgeous as are the images the hotels website.  I was stationed in the Edwardian room.  I guess you would probably call it a ballroom.  It was definitely large enough.  They also gave all the suppliers the nicest and most stylish chairs I’ve seen at any wedding fair.  Leather and padded, if these come with hiring the venue your guests derrière’s will be well catered for.  Actually they looked comfy but my chairs got taken away as have no space with my display, it was a sad parting.  All the surrounding rooms and corridors were tip top, that careful combination of modern and well maintained yet still keeping a sense of history.  I wish I could of spent more time there.

The Fair

Doing a wedding fair can be an intensely long day, while the odd supplier will be very local most will have driven quite a way.  I drove 2 hours and so did several other of the suppliers I spoke to.  That meant I was on the road shortly after.  Arrived about quarter past 9.  My satnav took me a rather curious route, not what google recommended.  But the A399 was really quite special, the river Bray runs through a steep wooded valley.  In the morning light it was really special on the stretch before Brayford.

River Bray just after sunset, looked stunning in the morning sun

Magical setting aside once you arrive you bust a gut.  My stand takes about one hour thirty to setup in its standard form but as with today there was more that could be done to take advantage of extra space.

Woolacombe Bay Hotel front gate

Typically you tweak your stand until the first people arrive which at a good event will happen within minutes of the start time.  What begins as a trickle normally gets busy quickly.  So many lovely people to speak to.  This can be tough if there’s only one of you there.  At times on Sunday there was three different groups looking so it’s not easy making sure everyone understands your products and have spotted the mini brochures and samples to take.  It is how ever really nice to speak to all the Brides and Grooms and their friends and family members.  It’s a real high point of the day chatting with and getting to know potential clients.  It’s easier in the latter stages as earlier you want to try and say hello to everyone, even if briefly.  Later in the day there’s less people so you have a good chance to chat to anyone who stops by and is interested in your work.

My stall is tucked in at the end

Come back for part two tomorrow including a look at the other suppliers, why the rest of this week is busy and what I got up to after the fair and was all packed away, it was really exciting (ok, mildly exciting), I did take a few nice photos though.  In the mean time no time like the present to check out some bespoke wedding invitations and stationery!  View my website here.

Ilminster Wedding & Celebration event 13th Jan

On Sunday the 13th January Artemis Stationery will be exhibiting at a Weddings and celebration fair at the Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster.  It’s being arranged by Jean Pas from Prima Moda Brides and she’s kindly arranged for me to be able to share the story the local newspaper have wrote about the event.  Prima Moda Brides stocks a wide variety of bridal gowns and some of these are shown in the images above.  If you want to see some of the stationery Artemis Stationery will be showing take a look at the website.

For the best day of your life and the special ones in between

Not just another Wedding Fair! . . . on Sunday 13th January 2013, The Shrubbery Hotel in Ilminster will be host to the first Weddings and Celebrations Fair of its kind in Somerset.

With such a wide array of event-oriented companies in the area, Jean Pas of Prima Moda Brides, Ilminster, wanted to organise a celebrations fair to showcase more than just weddings.

There will be information, demonstrations and samples on show from a variety of companies, from a casino to hand-crafted jewellery and a disco to a cake-maker. Kelly Leigh Dance studio will also be holding demonstrations at 12.30pm and 3pm.

As well as hosting the event The Shrubbery Hotel will have a dressed table to show how your event could look.

Staff from Debenhams in Taunton will also be on hand to offer advice on their services.

Along with weddings Companies at the fair can also cater for:

• Christenings

• Birthdays

• Anniversaries

• Valentines

• Renewal of Vows

• Corporate Events

• Pampering for special days

• Photography

• Proms

Jean said “I hope this will inspire people to attend as you can see it is much more than a wedding fair. Think of all the other celebrations you will hold over the years”.

“The fair will be running from 10 am until 4pm on Sunday 13th January at the Shrubbery Hotel Ilminster, all the stand-holders look forward to meeting you.

“The day will also be in aid of the Epilepsy Society Charity to whom we are making donations.”

Jean chose to support the Epilepsy Society after working with a bride who suffers with the condition, and wanted to give some promotion to a lesser-known charity with a local connection.

Kirsty Swain from Ilminster was “over the moon” when Jean told her the fair would be raising money for the Epilepsy Society. As a regular fundraiser for the charity, Kirsty is keen to spread the word about epilepsy and how people can help those who suffer with it.

Kirsty’s seven-year old son Connor has learnt what to do and who to contact in an emergency.

Elizabeth Tidy will be representing the charity if anyone would like information.

For further information about the Weddings and Celebrations Fair please contact Jean on 01460 54600.

First Wedding Fayre’s for Artemis Stationery

Artemis Stationery attended our first wedding Fair in May and June, the first one was the guides for brides fair at New Milton Hall. A De Vere hotel in Oxfordshire. The second show was at the Pedersen Winchester Hotel in Winchester and was organised by Valerie Monger (our stand is shown in the photos). It was great to be able to get out and talk to a lot of people and hear lots of positive feedback on our new stationery designs as well as take some orders.

The venues themselves were lovely. New Milton Hall hotel was on the edge of a industrial estate though once we sat outside the bar after the fair all we could see was parkland. The inside of the hotel was gorgeous though. The Winchester Hotel had a much more urban setting and while the function rooms were not the largest they were beautifully laid out and it would make an excellent venue.

The next fairs we do will be in the autumn. We will announce the Fair’s we’re attending here when we book them.
